The U.S. Division of Power (DOE) introduced awards for the Fiscal 12 months 2024 Part I Launch 2 of the Small Companies Modern Analysis (SBIR) and Small Enterprise Expertise Switch (STTR) program. Throughout DOE, 229 initiatives in 39 states acquired $52 million to pursue clear power analysis and growth (R&D), and eventual demonstration initiatives. The Car Applied sciences Workplace (VTO) chosen 27 initiatives in 13 states to advance clear transportation R&D. Totaling $5.4 million, VTO’s funded initiatives will work to unravel a variety of issues together with:

  • Bettering the state-of-the-art for electrical car (EV) battery cells and elements
  • Establishing a home manufacturing functionality for commercialization of competitively priced energy modules for high-voltage EV charging methods, and solid-state transformers
  • Growing modern options for enhancing transportation effectivity (individuals and items)
  • Growing, designing, and demonstrating multifunctional and clever composites for next-generation electrical automobiles for lighweighting and decarbonization
  • Measuring in-situ biodiesel blends for off-road automobiles.

DOE SBIR and STTR awards try to rework DOE-supported science and expertise breakthroughs. Funded by way of the DOE’s SBIR and STTR packages, VTO’s alternatives are for Part I analysis and growth. Small companies that demonstrated technical feasibility for improvements throughout their Part I grants will compete for funding for prototype or processes growth throughout Part II. The median Part I award is $200,000 for a interval of six to 12 months.
